Denture care instructions:

1) Common problems in the first week include difficulties with speech (particularly the “f”, “s” and “V” sounds), mild nausea, excess salivation and tired facial muscles.

2) Should you experience any pain at rest or when chewing, please contact us on 016 976 0436.

3) Chewing may be a struggle at the beginning. Start with cutting morsels of food into small pieces, and chewing them on both sides of the mouth at the same time in an up and down motion.

4) Studies show that using a denture fixative such as Corega may slow down the rate of bone resorption (thinning).

5) Please do not sleep with your dentures in your mouth!

6) Dentures should be cleaned twice a day. If you have a partial denture, please brush your teeth and floss as per usual. Please pay particular attention to teeth next to the denture, as they may develop dental caries and periodontal disease very easily. If you have no teeth at all, please still brush your gums and tongue with a toothbrush and tooth paste.

7) Do not use toothpaste on your dentures. Dentures can be cleaned using liquid soap (such as Sunlight soap) and gauze. Commercially available denture cleaners are also a good option.

8) Stains and plaque build up on your dentures are signs of improper denture hygiene.
