Congratulations on your new dental implant! Your implant is a new foundation for your replacement tooth, and it's important to take care of it properly to ensure a successful healing process and a long-lasting result.

Instructions for the first 24 hours after implant placement:

  • Bite down gently on the gauze placed over the implant site for 30-45 minutes to stop any bleeding.

  • Do not disturb the implant site by touching or rinsing your mouth for the first 24 hours.

  • Avoid smoking or using any tobacco products for at least 72 hours after implant placement.

  • Take any prescribed medication as directed.

  • Limit your diet to soft, cold foods for the first 24 hours.

Instructions for the first week after implant placement:

  • Brush your teeth gently especially in the implant site.

  • Rinse your mouth with warm salt water after meals to help keep the area clean.

  • Do not drink through a straw or use a water pik for the first week.

  • Avoid eating hard, crunchy, or sticky foods for the first week.

  • Do not drink alcohol for at least 72 hours after implant placement.

Instructions for the first month after implant placement:

  • Continue to brush and floss your teeth regularly.

  • Attend any scheduled follow-up appointments with your dentist.

  • Avoid chewing or biting on the implant site until your dentist gives you the green light.

  • Continue to avoid smoking and tobacco use.

  • Avoid eating hard, crunchy, or sticky foods for at least 4 weeks.

It's important to keep all follow-up appointments with your dentist to ensure the implant is healing properly. If you experience any pain, swelling, or bleeding at the implant site, contact your dentist immediately. With proper care, your new dental implant will last for many years to come.
